International Savings Day is being held in Azerbaijan.

Today Azerbaijan celebrates World Savings Day with the organizational help of CBAR, SBFIC, ADIF, and several commercial banks of Azerbaijan (“Demirbank” JOSC, “Bank Respublika” JOSC, “Unibank” JOSC, and “AccessBank” JOSC).  Deputy Director of Department for Development of CBAR Natavan Mammadova, representative of SBFIC Henning Seeman, Investment manager of ADIF Elchin Niftiyev and representatives of commercial banks were the face of their organization in this event.

At the press-conference held on Tuesday Natavan Mammadova note that “this event are being held all over the world since 1991 and for the first time are being held in Azerbaijan in order to increase “Financial Knowledge” of Azerbaijan people”.

Afterwards the representative of SBFIC Henning Seeman had a speech and noted that several countries celebrate World Savings Day and it is very important to have this event in Azerbaijan: “To save and to get deposit is very important both for development of “Financial Knowledge” among people and development of economy of country. SBFIC are being processing over 200 years in Germany and it had a higher impact on countries economy. Therefore, it is a necessity to start same process in Azerbaijan”.

 “People fare to keep deposits in Banks as they do not know how the Azerbaijan Deposit Insurance Fund works. Some events that Azerbaijan undergoes after the collapse of USSR had a huge impact on people’s belief to bank sector. Therefore, it is very important to rebuild the people’s belief to banks” said Investment Manager of ADIF Elchin Niftiyev during his speech at the press-conference.

Finally, the representatives of commercial banks also told some words about importance and impact of celebration of World Savings Day and informed press about the events that will take place in Baku and in other big cities of Azerbaijan within the framework of World Savings Day.

CBAR announced a week of October 31 –November 8 as the savings’ week. The purpose of this event is to develop “Financial Knowledge” of children. Therefore, Natavan Mammadova informed the press about the production of bags, booklets and videos related to this event which will help to get an attention of children.

At the end of press-conference there was a presentation of booklets, bags and videos that will be played on ATM-s of participated banks related to World Savings Day.          

We would like to note that World Savings Day firstly was celebrated on October, 1924 at a congress that was held in Milan the city of Italia and where representatives of 29 countries participated.
